FMP Week 15 - Exterior Part 3

18/4/16 - 22/4/16

The exterior is now totally playable! I got some feedback that suggested making the bushes and leaves slightly more detailed, so I still need to do that. On top of that, I want make some flowers to add around the place to break up the rest of the green foliage.

FMP Week 14 - Exterior part 2

11/4/16 - 15/4/16

This week was pretty straightforward as I was just building and positioning more things for the exterior. Although there was a lot of work left to do, it was starting to take shape.

FMP Week 13 - Exterior

4/4/16 - 8/4/16

I have 3 weeks scheduled to make the exterior of the barn. In my original brief, I listed making the exterior as a stretch goal, but as I'm on target and have 3 weeks already scheduled, I will probably end up making the exterior area playable as well as the interior.

I did 3 paint overs to figure out a way for the exterior environment to look. I went back to my Pinterest board for real life reference: https://uk.pinterest.com/RiftInThyme/barn/

I decided to go with something like the third one.

By the end of the week, my level looked like this:

Technically, the interior is finished, but I will no doubt be tweaking parts of it still!

FMP Week 12 - Finishing the Tractor

28/3/16 - 1/4/16

I spent this week texturing the tractor, including making the high-poly. I've never been very good at making high-poly meshes, but one of my friends showed me an easy to make a clean high-poly to bake from by laying tubosmooth modifiers.

Final wheel high-poly on the left, previous attempts on the right!
After that, the rest of the high-poly was pretty straight-forward.

*thumbs up*

Here's the tractor model with the baked normal and AO maps:

Next, I shoved the model in Substance Painter to texture the rest of it.

I was pretty lazy with the texture first of all, but my mentor gave me some tips on how to make it look better. I needed to vary the brush strokes more, and add a bit more detail, layer the dirt, and add more variation to the roughness.

Lazy texture
Also lazy texture!

After I worked into it a bit more, the texture looked like this:

FMP Week 11 - More Tractor

21/3/16 - 25/3/16

I don't have anything to say this week, other than I finished the tractor model and unwrapped it.

FMP Week 10 - Modelling the Tractor

14/3/16 - 18/3/16

Week 10 was spent modeling the tractor. I didn't manage to finish modelling the whole thing, but I did get most of it down.

The tractor is based on the 1948 Massey-Harris Pony, but it isn't massively accurate to it as I ended up using reference from a few slightly different versions of the Pony. To me, this doesn't matter, as the finish model isn't intended to be a realistic copy anyway.

Also this week, I made some of the photos that the player will be able to pick up and look at in the level:
